Two people found dead inside Rob Reiner’s home in Los Angeles

Legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his son argued at a Hollywood party, hours before the filmmaker and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found stabbed to death at their Los Angeles home, according to a report.

Nick Reiner, 32, and his father were seen in a disagreement at Conan O’Brien’s home Saturday evening, where several people noticed the son “acting strangely,” family friends told the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement Monday that Nick Reiner was responsible for his parents' deaths. He was located at 9:15 p.m, nearly six hours after the couple's bodies were found Sunday afternoon. He is being held without bail, after it was initially set at $4 million. The bodies of the director, 78, and his wife, 68, were discovered by their daughter Romy, who lives nearby, according to reports.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners, a tragic incident," LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said at a press conference.

Reiner directed iconic movies including This is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men.

Tributes poured in for the couple, who were also known for their activism on liberal causes, from Hollywood stars and figures across the political spectrum including former presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, blaming Reiner’s death on “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” His post was widely condemned, including by a number of prominent Republicans, who urged him to take it down.

Trump doubled down on attack of Rob Reiner: 'I thought he was very bad for our country'

Despite his heavily criticized Truth Social post, President Donald Trump doubled down on his scathing remarks about Rob Reiner, just after his death.

Asked if he stood by the post, the president said in the Oval Office Monday: "Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person, as far as Trump is concerned.”

“He said…that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia, you know, the Russia hoax, he was one of the people behind it. I think he hurt himself career wise,” Trump continued. “He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."

'Shameful': Members of Congress, from both sides of the aisle, lambast Trump's post

Lawmakers continue to bash President Donald Trump’s remarks in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death as “shameful.”

Democrats and Republicans alike sharply criticized Trump’s Truth Social post in which he chalked up the beloved director’s death to “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“The brutal murder of Rob and Michele Reiner is a tragedy. But rather than showing a shred of decency and empathy, the President of the United States is making it about himself,” Colorado Democratic Rep. Jason Crow wrote. “Absolutely shameful.”

New York Republican Rep. Mike Lawler slammed: “This statement is wrong. Regardless of one’s political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son. It’s a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion from everyone in our country, period.”

According to CNN’s Jake Tapper, Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon said: ”I’d expect to hear something like this from a drunk guy at a bar, not the President of the United States. Can the President be presidential?”
